Stepping off the bus in Tennessee
Knowing he’s alive but he can’t breath
Don’t know if he’s going or he’s coming
Only think he knows for sure is that he’s running
In the dark trying to reach the stars
with just a suitcase and two guitars

But he’s got hope in his eyes
Knowing no one gains if no one tries
But it can only get better
When you’re walking the road that you choose
And your hearts been the lonely drifter
Now you got nothing to loose

As she drops her daughter off at school
She thinks at 18 college would have been cool
But with a baby nine months after prom
It was more important just to be a mom
And now she hopes its not too late
First day on campus at twenty-eight

And she’s got hope in her eyes
Knowing no one gains if no one tries
But it can only get better
When you’re walking the road that you choose
And your hearts been the lonely drifter
Now you got nothing to loose

We’ve got hope in our eyes
Knowing no one gains if no one tries
Now it can only get better
When you’re walking the road that you choose
Cause our hearts are the lonely drifters
And some wishes come true
