Leaning in to Awkward Charm

Monica Daniels was born and raised in Los Angeles California. She is a Singer-songwriter and rhythm guitarist. Monica’s love for music began at an early age. Her mother and father would record her making up songs and playing shows standing on her first stage, her grandmother’s coffee table with a mixing spoon as her microphone. Monica began piano lessons at the age of three when she simultaneously began writing poetry. When she heard the song Girls with Guitars by Mary Chapin Carpenter she started singing her poems and begging her parents for a guitar. She got her first guitar at the age 10 and began learning to play.

In high school she was an active member of The Santa Monica High Theatre, Slam Poetry Club and helped to found The Emporium of Music Recognition the two clubs worked together uniting writers with musicians and hosting open mics and other events throughout the year one of which being the first Santa Monica High School Battle of the Bands. While in high school Monica played with two cover bands but always had the desire to write and sing her own music.

Finding her voice as a writer after college, Monica began focusing all her energy on songwriting. She began regularly hosting a showcase in the trendy Pico-Robertson area of Los Angeles. There, she was able to feel comfortable while working to develop her stage presence. Monica describes the music she writes as the soundtrack to life. A lover of film and particularly music in film, Monica became a member of Film Independent.

Monica now plays showcases and open mics all over the city, while working on her debut album, excepted to be released later this year.
